program description

The OnFarm program is looking to help 100 Southern Alberta producers make their operations more energy efficient.

The OnFarm Energy Efficiency Program was developed by Climate Change Central and Alberta Agriculture and Food (AF)’s AgTech Centre.

Dairy, swine and poultry producers may be eligible for energy efficiency assessments that will provide recommendations for changing equipment or practices that will result in economic and environmental benefits.

The pilot program aims to perform 100 energy assessments – first come, first serve – and will begin in the spring of 2007. Participation requires access to a producer’s operation to collect energy data on their operation.

Most of the $1,800 cost of the assessment is covered by program sponsors. Producers will be asked to pay $200 for practical, cost-saving information customized to their operations. The program is also working to establish a regional network to provide equipment, supplies, services and financing required for long-term uptake of energy efficiency improvements on farms.
